Most mods for beta 1.7.3 are jar mods, which means that you use the Add to Minecraft Jar button in the Edit Instance window, Version tab. The exception is Forge mods like IC2 or Buildcraft for example. Also some ModLoader mods which don't edit base classes (like uu.class for example usually 2 letters and .class are how base classes are shown).
BetterBeta aims to fix those bugs, add the missing features, remove the unwanted, and improve the quality of life without making it incompatible with regular Beta 1.7.3 or taking away the Beta feeling. In a way, BetterBeta is an addon to Beta 1.7.3. Several key features BetterBeta has (or may have in the future) are: - Creative mode Some people prefer playing Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 to the more recent versions. For those players, I've decided to put up this convenient little archive of mods that offer better performance, bug fixes and other miscellaneous little add-ons. Aether, (because its THE Beta 1.7.3 mod) Twilight Forest, (because back then it was quite good, and it doesn't use any ID space) Biomes O Plenty, (optional - don't use this if you wanna play one of your old seeds)
My opinions: With this pack I think beta 1.7.3 is the most stable, complete, and greatest version minus tall grass, especially with a few tweaks/fixes that I listed above. Also, if you put the Alpha pack on and change your settings it really just feels like you are playing Alpha, but with some new cool features.

beta 1.7.3 mods BetterCraft Beta 1.7.3 is the last version of MineCraft that doesn't have sprinting, hunger, experience, or potions. Those features make the game less fun and noticeably easier. While many of the later updates had some good additions such as the ability to place slabs and stairs upside-down, the damage has already been done, and playing Minecraft b1.8 .
